Methods of Working
What is Benchmarking and how does it help my business?
- A simple process that enables you to compare your business with other businesses.
- The other businesses may be either in your sector or from a completely different sector.
- Usually companies want to gain an understanding of how they are performing when compared to others in their sector so that they can improve their performance in a strategic manner.
- However if you have a particular issue, e.g. improving your supply performance, then comparing yourself with a business sector that has a strong track record in running complex supply chains can be beneficial and help you to ‘think out of the box’ and establish a better way of operating.
- There are many examples of this in practice, for example the supermarkets are very good at delivering high & low volumes and high varieties of goods to a diverse set of locations. They are often looked at as good practitioners of modern Supply Chain methods.
How is Benchmarking undertaken?
- The process itself is completely confidential
- A simple questionnaire collects key information about your business
- This information is confidentially compared to other businesses in your sector
- A report is prepared and discussed with you
-
- An action plan with quantified savings and deliverable timescales is agreed
- Further support can be provided to deliver the action plan
Whilst Benchmarking will clearly identify Performance and Practice gaps, your business may require further support to work out how to bridge these gaps with effective solutions.
